Meet Honoré Daumier, a 19th-century French artist with a sharp tongue and a brush.

Daumier was born in Marseille, but his family moved to Paris when he was just 6 years old.

As a young boy, Daumier showed artistic talent and began working as a messenger and an assistant to a bookseller.

Daumier started taking art lessons at the Académie Suisse in 1823 and began creating lithographic caricatures in 1829.

After the 1830 Revolution, Daumier's work became more openly political and he gained recognition for his social commentary.
