Meet Oscar Niemeyer, the Brazilian architect who revolutionized modern architecture with his curved and organic forms.

Born in 1907 in Rio de Janeiro, Niemeyer graduated in architecture in 1934 at the National School of Fine Arts.

He met Lúcio Costa, a leader of the modernist movement in Brazilian architecture, in 1937 and worked together on the Ministry of Education and Health building.

Niemeyer designed the Pampulha architectural complex in Belo Horizonte, featuring free-flowing forms, in 1941.

He represented Brazil in the planning of the United Nations works in New York City and designed the United Nations Headquarters with Le Corbusier.
