Renoir the film portrays the final years of the life of French painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, a period during which he was reclusive in his vast property on the French Riviera, which was almost an oasis in the midst of the terror caused by the first great war.

The entire plot revolves around the arrival of Andrée, a beautiful, vigorous, and impetuous young woman, who becomes not only the muse inspiring Renoir's art, restoring to him, in part, his vitality, but also the muse inspiring the dreams of youth of Jean Renoir, when he returns, wounded, from the war.
In Renoir the film, the question of the value attributed to art, which is present from the beginning to the end of the film, is expressed in the behavior and attitudes of each of the characters.
The life of Jean Renoir and Andrée Heuschling, also known as Catherine, was intertwined for a large part of their lives.
