Its filming took place in the city of Cabaceiras in 1999, in the state of Paraíba, a setting for many other Brazilian films. It premiered in September 2000 in Brazil and was later shown in other countries. In the United States, it was translated into The Dog's Will. The film received widespread acclaim and positive reviews in most countries where it was shown.

But then, a question arises:

In the village of Taperoá, in the sertão of Paraíba, João Grilo and Chicó, two Northeasterners without a home or a farm, roam the streets announcing The Passion of Christ, "the most daring film in the world". With great success in the movie theater, the duo manages to earn some money, but they continue to struggle for survival. João Grilo and Chicó imagine various plans to get some money. They face several challenges that arise, and without hesitation, they cause many planned confusions, all orchestrated by João Grilo, very clever, always in partnership with Chicó.

With the scams to get some money, they get involved with a feared cangaceiro in the region, Severino de Aracaju, played magnificently by Marco Nanini. With the arrival of the beautiful Rosinha, a lovely daughter of Antonio Moraes, Chicó becomes completely smitten. And the story continues until the appearance of Our Lady, who alone can save João Grilo and make the duo return to living their confusions again.
