Emiliano Augusto Cavalcanti de Albuquerque was born in Rio de Janeiro on September 6, 1897.

Seventeen years later, with the death of his father, he began working for the Revista Fon Fon doing illustrations.

He started painting in 1920 and, by 1921, he applied for the exhibition that resulted in the Modern Art Week, being its idealizer - taking as a model the Festival de Deauville in France -, as well as the author of the graphic project of the catalog and program.

In 1932, Di Cavalcanti founded in São Paulo, with Flávio de Carvalho, Antonio Gomide and Carlos Prado, the Clube dos Artistas Modernos.

He suffered his first imprisonment during the Paulista Revolution.
