A Pioneering Muralist

Eduardo Kobra was born in 1976 in São Paulo.
The artist discovered his passion for street art in his adolescence when he met the world of graffiti associated with “Hip Hop”.
At that time, his parents decided to move to Bauru, a city located in the interior of São Paulo where he resumed his formal education. He did not like studying, because his thoughts were always focused on drawing and painting.
In the 90s, São Paulo became one of the main centers of contemporary street art, so Kobra started his career completely self-taught with urban art in his hometown - with the Studio Kobra - for a painting mural.
His first major project was to commemorate the 455 years of the city of São Paulo for the series “Muros das Memória”, of 2003.
Kobra's colorful works can be found beyond Brazil, around the world, including countries such as the USA, Russia, the United Kingdom, Japan, Switzerland, France, Greece, the United Arab Emirates, Poland, and Italy, among others.
Currently, Kobra continues to create enchanting murals that serve as a kind of visual social diary that portrays people who entered history through their achievements and actions. Through his remarkable realistic murals, rich in colors and geometric forms, the artist pays homage to all these people.
In 2017, Kobra launched his first serigraphy and chose one of his most famous paintings, Explosão de Amor, from the mural located in New York.
The artist spends a lot of time in museums and libraries exploring the history of the city before starting to create a new piece. After having an impression of the history of the location chosen for a painting, he begins to work on it and create images taken from old photographs that evoke a sense of memory and nostalgia in the observer.
Eduardo Kobra currently resides in São Paulo and maintains his Studio Kobra where he carries out his projects.
