Modigliani and his work
This complete Italian artist, with such distinct references, never actually followed a determined style. Between sculptures and paintings, his main characteristic is the exposure of the human soul. In his main works, he portrayed women in elongated images, where necks were long and faces were oval. However, his main mark on humanity were the ‘Modigliani eyes’, most of the time, painted as empty gazes or just blurs.

About the empty gaze, he wrote: "When I know your soul, I will paint your eyes."

The Italian painter is known for his series of nudes that feature in his work. Visibly sensual, his nudes, however, do not appear vulgar or appealing. They remind us of the great masters of painting, much appreciated by the painter: Titian, Ingres, and Goya.

Portrait of Jeanne Hébuterne - This is one of the most classic portraits that Modigliani painted of Jeanne. The studied rhythm of the gesture creates a balance in the set, where the rounded volumes of the chair, the pose of the arm, the neckline, and the face contrast with the vertical line of the background.

Portrait of Léopold Zborowski - Modigliani painted the portrait of his great friend, who, passionate about art and with his kindness and enthusiasm, helped the artist employ all the resources at his disposal to achieve the recognition he deserved and so longed for. This affection is evident in the intensity of this portrait rich in emotional nuances.

Modigliani's sculptures were strongly inspired by traditional African and Oceanic sculpture. His sculptures receive the same characteristics as his painting

In this self-portrait, the artist is ill, exhausted: his gaunt silhouette, his emaciated face, seems particularly suited to this lyrical transformation, this rhythm in which he can now enclose the exhausted images of his short life.
